Orange Tree theatre

Website and Spektrix migration to WordPress

The Orange Tree approached us in late 2023 to re-create their Spektrix-integrated website in WordPress.

We completed development in three months, retaining much of the OT’s existing look and feel but making an important range of usability and detailed interface improvements along the way, especially around the Spektrix booking sequence.

Key people in the Orange Tree team already had experience with WordPress and after a short training session supported by a clear and concise user manual, the team has enjoyed the freedom to maintain the site independently.

The Orange Tree is our first producing theatre, and the first for whom we’ve included online on-demand performances.

Usefulness drives our approach to interface improvements. Show pages put booking links a step closer, removing navigation between separate info and booking links/tabs. The DOT Spektrix plugin calls performance details including ticket availability and flags up special performances.

Spektrix API + the DOT WordPress plugin

As will all our theatre sites, the new Orange Tree site uses our DOT Spektrix WordPress plugin to pull content from the Spektrix ticketing system through a mix of integrated API calls and custom-styled iframes for seat selection and booking.

With this project, we evolved the plugin software to deliver OT on screen on demand videos as well as live shows.

In person training for the team delivered at the theatre is supported by a comprehensive reference manual.

Throughout the project we guided the Orange Tree through every step of the process. We’re friendly, good communicators and happy to work on our own initiative. Our unmediated approach to support means the Orange Tree team (like all our clients) work directly with the people doing the work, which means support is delivered accurately and quickly.
